Homemade almond milk is simple and easy to make and is extremely healthy. This almond milk recipe only contains 5 ingredients so you know that it's pure goodness! I used to purchase my almond milk from the grocery store. Unsweetened vanilla flavor. I've always had a sensitivity to dairy and knowing that dairy causes inflammation in the body I've always gone with a milk alternative. Almond milk has a very mild flavor and works well on its own as well as mixed with other recipes. I never really payed much attention to the ingredients label because I thought 'what could really be in almond milk'. Well, next time you purchase your almond milk, check out the LONG list of ingredients that goes into almond milk and the one thing you'll find is that almonds are actually the SMALLEST part of the ingredients! Lots of fillers and it's highly processed as well. So, I decided to try to make my own and see how time consuming and difficult it actually was. What did I find? It was super simple, cost effective, quick to make, and was better for me! I make fresh almond milk about every 3 days or so and now that it's part of my routine, I'll never go back to store bought almond milk.

Makes about 8 cups of almond milk

  • 1 heaping cup raw almonds (no salt, not roasted)

  • 8 cups of water, divided

  • a pinch of salt

  • about a tablespoon of honey

  • about 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract


  • soak almonds in water for at least 4 hours; if you're not making almond milk on the same day, drain the water and place almonds in the fridge until ready to use.

  • place all ingredients in a high powered blender (Vitamix, Ninja, etc)

  • blend for 2 minutes

  • place a nut milk bag over a bowl and pour blended milk in bowl

  • squeeze milk into bowl leaving behind the almond pulp; discard almond pulp

  • place 4 additional cups of water in the almond milk bowl (can use less water for at thicker milk)

  • store in airtight container in the fridge; will last up to 5 days

blend in with smoothies, pour over homemade granola, use in baking dishes, or even stir into your mashed potatoes 

NOTE: because this is not a processed milk, it will spoil if left too long; you will know when milk has spoiled because the smell and taste will not be pleasant
